Roys to Host Baby Bonds Briefing with Panel of ExpertsMADISON — State Senator Kelda Roys (D-Madison) will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss the policy proposal of baby bonds. This session, Senator Roys and Representative Robyn Vining (D-Wauwatosa) introduced a bill to create a baby bonds program in Wisconsin (SB 1008/AB 1022). Baby bonds are a state-managed and invested trust fund account assigned to children born of Medicaid-eligible parents who reside in the state. At 18 years old, eligible beneficiaries can use the accounts for certain expenses: buying a home, post-secondary education, starting a business, contributing to a retirement savings account, or child care/investment into the education of a minor. Senator Roys will host a briefing discussing her legislation and will be joined by Thea Garon from Urban Institute, Carte’cia Weaver, a Senior Policy Analyst and Advocate, and David Radcliffe from the Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy. They will present on baby bonds and how they can be used as an economic opportunity for children in Wisconsin. Please reach out to Emily Duernberger in Sen.
