WISCONSIN STATE SENATE


SENATE DEMOCRATS RETAIN 18-15 MAJORITY

Tuesday's election resulted in the status quo for the State Senate, where Democrats will hold an 18-15 majority next session.

Democrats successfully defended the 12th Senate District seat vacated by Democrat Roger Breske. Former Commerce Secretary and former State Rep. Jim Holperin defeated Republican Tom Tiffany.

Republicans successfully defended the 18th Senate District seat vacated by Republican Carol Roessler. Randy Hopper defeated Democrat Jessica King.

There were no other changes as Democrats and Republican incumbents won
 

In the 2007-08 Senate, Democrats held an 18-15 majority.
Only 16 of the 33 Senate Districts are up for election on November 4.
Of the 17 remaining districts, Democrats control 10 districts, Republicans seven.
There are two open districts in the November 4 election.
12th District (Formerly represented by Democrat Roger Breske)
18th District (Formerly represented by Republican Carol Roessler)
There are seven districts in which incumbents are unopposed.
